Five Simple Ways To Get Out of Your Fitness Slump
We all fall off the health and fitness bandwagon sometimes - whether we're just getting back on our feet after a holiday, going through a busy period in life, or simply losing motivation...It happens to everyone! The trouble with being stuck in a fitness slump, is that it can be really hard to get back out of it. Here are some of our top tips on how to get out of your fitness rut:
Buy Yourself Some New Workout Clothes
When you are in a rut, sometimes all you need is something to motivate you or excite you a little. A great way to look forward to getting back into the gym is buying some new clothes or workout accessories! After all, who wants to spend money on a new crop just to have it sit in their closet. If you can’t afford a whole new outfit, even something as simple as a new pair of headphones or drink bottle can still motivate you!
Write Down Your Goals
If you have fallen off the exercise bandwagon and are finding it hard to get started again, write down some weekly goals. This can literally be as simple as exercising 3 times that week. To make yourself even more accountable, it can be handy to set alarms on your phone to remind you! Having some goals can make it easier for you to commit, rather than having a vague mindset of “I’ll get back to it eventually”.
Start With Things You Like
If you haven’t exercised in a while, jumping straight into an intense session that you know will leave you feeling sore and overwhelmed may not be the best option. Instead, start slow and start with things you like. Motivate yourself by doing form of exersize you enjoy, such as a hiking on your favorite trail or walking by the beach, and eventually you will ease back into a routine.
Plan Your Weekly Meals
If healthy eating is where you catch yourself slipping up, plan out weekly meals. Most of us make bad food choices when we are super hungry or fail to prepare food for the day. Write down a meal plan and have healthy snacks (such as yogurt, fruit and nuts) available at all times. Once again, start small by planning just a few days at a time so that you don’t overwhelm yourself. If you are looking for healthy recipes and snacks check out our recipe page here.
Work Out With a Friend
The more, the merrier! Sometimes, it is hard to self-motivate after a long day of work. Friends can provide an extra boost of motivation when it gets tough. Everyone has those days when they just don’t feel like going to the gym and those times when they want to call it quits, friends can offer encouragement to keep you going. Just be sure to return the favor. Furthermore, you’re far more likely to actually workout when you’re forced to schedule it ahead of time and cancelling means inconveniencing a friend. Making concrete plans with another person means you’ll be far less likely to cancel in favor of the couch. Aside from accountability and motivation, working out with a friend is just so much more FUN.
Hope these help! Remember: the best thing to do is just to DO IT!
